When I first started reading, I was young & it came very easy for me. I was taught to pronounce words and how to complete phrases. After a couple of grades my teacher realized I couldn't comprehend anything that I was reading. I would read a passage and answer the questions wrong because I would forget that fast. I personally believe it was the result of competition. In my class, we were always graded on how fast we read, rather than what we remembered. So, that was definitely something I had to work on. When I began Middle School it was difficult for me to read to myself so I found myself reading aloud. I started entering in spelling bees and I was good at it. I was always good at spelling & that's what I continued to do.
